The Short Version
I don't want your data. I don't require you to make an account, I don't track the PDFs you upload, and I don't sell your information to advertisers.
When you upload a PDF or paste text into Speading, it stays on your device. I don't have a server to see it, and I don't use any external APIs to process your text.
What Information We Collect
Information You Provide
Speading is designed to be "local-first." We do not collect, store, or transmit your reading content (PDFs, text files, or pasted text) to any server.
- No Account Required: You don't need to create an account to use Speading.
- Local Processing: All text processing for speed reading and quiz generation is handled locally on your device. We do not "phone home" with your content.
- Reading Progress: Your settings and history are stored locally. If you delete the app, that data is gone.
Platform Analytics
We do not use any third-party tracking SDKs (like Facebook or specialized ad-trackers). We only see the anonymous, aggregate data provided by Apple and Google to all developers:
- App Store / Play Console Metrics: Anonymous data like how many people downloaded the app or what country they are in.
- Standard Crash Reporting: Basic technical logs if the app crashes, provided by the OS, to help me fix bugs.
How We Use Information
Since we don't have your data, we can't do much with it! The limited, anonymous platform metrics are used solely to:
- Ensure the app works on different phone models and OS versions.
- Prioritize which languages or features to build next based on general usage.
We do not sell, share, or even look at your specific reading habits.
Third-Party Services & AI
Speading provides links and prompts to help you use external AI tools (like ChatGPT or Claude) for comprehension. Important: We do not automatically send your text to these services. Any interaction with an external AI is initiated by you, and is subject to that specific service's privacy policy.
Data Storage
Your data is stored using standard mobile storage APIs. We do not have a cloud-sync feature. If you wish to back up your data, that is handled by your device's native iCloud or Google Drive backup settings.
Your Rights
Because we don't collect PII (Personally Identifiable Information), we don't have a database to "delete" you from. You have the ultimate right: total control. To delete all data Speading has, simply delete the app from your device.
